Australia's chief selector Bailey has declared that skipper Cummins will play a "major part" in this winter's Ashes series.
There were concerns that Cummins might be unavailable due to a persistent back stress problem that was still troubling him.
Previous updates from the Australian camp suggested no definitive call had been made regarding Cummins' participation, with the five-Test series set to start on 21 November in Western Australia.
He revealed that Cummins is "building up" and felt positive about the likelihood of being involved.
"We know that the clock is ticking and various factors around that, aside from his injury, but other factors as well," he commented.
"The outlook is good. There's strong faith that he will feature a major part. With luck starting in Perth. Should that not happen, we'll adjust."
Past Concerns
He was sidelined the white-ball matches against India and New Zealand last month after scans revealed a lower back issue.
Previous incidents include of recurring issues, with setbacks in multiple past seasons causing him to miss multiple domestic campaigns in a short span.
Cummins stated he would be bold in recovery efforts in his comeback strategy to secure his spot for the contest.
He mentioned that it was unclear if he had started his bowling workouts as part of his comeback but conceded it was "becoming urgent" for him to recover fully for the initial match.
Contingency Plans
If he's unavailable, ex-skipper Smith will assume leadership.
Versatile player Green was excluded lately from Australia's squad for their limited-overs matches against India as a precautionary measure because of an abdominal issue.
Bailey described it as a "slight concern and confirmed that he'll feature in the Sheffield Shield, so will be "well-prepared to deliver overs."
"Extensive planning has gone into building out the plan for him to participate for the opening match as an batting and bowling option," Bailey explained.
"His involvement was limited to the first two ODIs regardless. The way he swings the bat in limited-overs, even if it just sets him back for 24 more hours, we just made the decision to take a cautious route."
